Teatro São Pedro

The construction of a theater that sheltered with dignity the different cultural manifestations was a dream that since the colonial period, accompanied the rulers and population of the Province of São Pedro of Rio Grande do Sul. In 1833, the president of the province Manoel Antônio Galvão donated a land in the center of Porto Alegre to the São Pedro Theater so that they could start the construction that would be made with architectonic design in the neoclassical style of the architect Filipe Normann. But with the beginning of the Farroupilha Revolution in 1835, the work was suspended, being resumed years later. Finally, on June 27, 1858 the building was inaugurated under the presidency of Angelo Moniz da Silveira Ferraz, the Baron of Uruguaiana.
