Mercado Público

One of the main postcards of Porto Alegre, the Public Market was inaugurated in 1869 and it integrates the Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the city. The building houses 110 establishments that sell everything: spices, mater herb and fish utensils, as well as numerous restaurants and snack bars, such as Banca 40 – a famous ice cream shop, which is already 101 years old. The market has its external architecture, inspired by the neoclassical aesthetics, totally preserved and besides offering good products, trying to practice a good pricing policy, the Public Market also acts as a space for cultural and community manifestations of the city, providing a better quality of life to population.
